Amazon Fire TV is a streaming service that lets you watch shows and movies from Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and a variety of other services on a single device. Users of the FireStick in different countries, however, do not have access to the same programs and features.
However, you can change your location on your FireStick to gain access to features in other regions. This guide will show you how to change your FireStick’s location in various ways. We’ll also address some frequently asked questions about this subject.
Some Amazon Fire TV Stick apps and content are region-locked, which means you can only access them from specific locations. You may need to change the country where your Firestick is registered in some cases. An IP address in the country from which you’re streaming video may also be required. Although a VPN can assist you with both of these tasks, this tutorial will concentrate on the first.
Note that the full functionality of a Firestick is only available in a handful of countries, including:
- United States
- United Kingdom
Due to geographic licensing restrictions, Amazon Prime Video has different content libraries for each country. By changing your country, you’ll be able to watch TV shows and movies that aren’t available on Amazon Prime Video in your home country.
The Fire TV Cube is only available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and Japan.
How to change your country on Amazon
If you want to be able to rent and buy Prime Video in a different country, do this. Purchases and rentals of Prime Video are only available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Austria.
You must select a different country in your Amazon account to change your Amazon Prime country. It can’t be done on the device, so pull out your phone or laptop and go to Amazon.com.
Here’s how to change your country on Amazon:
- Log in to your Amazon account that is linked to your Firestick.
- Select Your content and devices by hovering over Accounts and Lists.
- Click the Preferences tab
- Select Country/Region Settings
- Click Change next to your current country
- Fill in the form with an address in the country you want to be associated with your Firestick
Return to your Fire TV Stick and turn it on again. You’ll be asked to register the Firestick again, following the same steps as when you first bought it.
You should now be able to watch Prime Video content from other countries, though you may still need to use a VPN to do so. More information can be found further down.
It’s worth noting that you might want to create a new Amazon account to ensure that your shopping and other Amazon-related activities are unaffected by this change.
